Welcome to the New Voices Initiative!
New Voices is an “inclusion and transition” initiative to benefit children with communication and mobility issues. Representing education, health and technology fields, and initially in partnership with five school districts, New Voices represents an innovative program of assessment and educational services. Guided by an unshakable commitment to inclusion in all aspects of life, our goal is to help these children develop communication and literacy skills so they can be fully integrated into the public schools. Arguably the most overlooked, these children cannot speak and are often in wheelchairs. Yet despite these challenges, they possess great potential to succeed academically and throughout life if given the right support and communication technology.
In short, we are working to establish the New Voices Assessment Program and Day School to provide comprehensive assessment and evaluation for children ages 3-14 in the Triangle region. In order to prepare these children to return to their home school, we will offer an assessment program to evaluate the complex needs of these children, and a transitional day school, slated to open in 2010, to provide up to two years of intensive services and support. The mission of our program is to identify and equip children with appropriate support and technology that enables them to communicate and develop literacy skills.
